What's Happening at Timbarra

Although last year the was much celebration when Ross Mining announced cessation of gold mining operations on the Timbarra plateau, the reality is quite gloomy. Operations are still going on, with existing ore continuing to be crushed and processed and rumours of fresh blasting.

Although the base camp at Crooked Creek and the Drake Environment Centre are no longer operating some fresh actions are being planned for the fresh year.

On the 26th January, the Aboriginal Embassy is possibly offering its support to a day of reclaiming the site for Aboriginal People. On the weekend of February 19-20th a festival will be held to demand a proper cleanup of the site. It would be wise to ring up the Timbarra Cafe at the Nimbin Museum first (02) 6689 1123 or the Nimbin Enviro Centre on (02) 6689 1441.
