ARE YOU ON THE ELECTRICITY GRID?

You can do something for the environment.

You can now choose your electricity retailer from companies throughout eastern Australia.

You can choose a retailer who offers Greenpower generated from solar or wind.

Greenpower costs slightly more. You can buy 100% Greenpower or a proportion. The extra you pay gets reinvested in renewable energy.

Beware of retailers who offer biomass as Greenpower. Biomass produces greenhouse gases. Projects like the wood-fired power station proposed for Grafton will be either hoping to be classed as Greenpower, or they will sell their power as ‘ordinary’ electricity. Either way, you don’t have to buy it.

Australian Inland Energy appears to be the only company so far offering green power solely generated from solar and wind. They are not yet set up for new customers but you can ask them to send you information when it becomes available. We recommend you check them out.

Country Energy is hoping their customers stay with them. Tell them you won’t buy power from a wood-fired power station.

There’s more information at the Environment Centre. The Sustainable Energy Development Authority’s website at www.seda.nsw gov.au is very useful or click here to get some quick answers on which company to choose. Tell your friends. It’s your chance to make a difference.
