HOW WE VOTED
Think back to last November . . . Remember? The children in the water. The fear and loathing. The naked opportunists. The Meet the Candidate nights, the awful TV ads, the junk in your mailbox. Bob Brown being the only voice of reason on TV. Handing out how-to-vote cards in the rain. Those were the days. Election night was monumentally disappointing for the optimists among us who hoped the electorate would see through the Howard Government’s hate campaign. We weren’t keen on Labor either. The good news was that the Greens did wonderfully well nationally, with …. % of the vote.
In Page, John Corkill won an impressive 7.07% of the vote (highest ever Green vote in Page) for the Greens after a strong and intrepid campaign. Thanks all you faithful Clarence people who helped. John was a great candidate for several reasons. He understood clearly from the outset that being a candidate would involve hard work, fatigue and strife. He was accessible and consultative. He was willing to be active and took part in every campaign opportunity that arose. He didn’t spit the dummy when the pressure was on. Now we’re looking for a candidate for the Greens tilt at the State election next March. If you intend to join, please do it before 14 March as our membership book will close for preselections. If you’re interested in being a candidate, contact us at the Environment Centre.
Here’s the result for Page.

HOW WE VOTED
The table shows, by booth, how the Greens fared in the Clarence part of the Page electorate in November. Assuming Green voters remain loyal, we could expect 3.8% of the vote in next year’s State election. We’d like much more than this. A good Greens result in Clarence will need a burst of energy from all our Greens supporters. There are 1015 of us out there!
