SAVING THE BUSH - EXCITING NEWS!

Voluntary Conservation Agreements are a good way to conserve environmental values of private land. They stay in place over the title of the land, so when a property changes hands, it’s still protected. They can apply to all or part of a property, depending on the agreement negotiated with National Parks & Wildlife Service. Now you know what a VCA is.

A couple of great ideas floating around the Environment Centre have the potential to combine to create a project that would involve:

Setting up a Trust which would buy a block of land, arrange for a VCA to be negotiated, design an ecologically sustainable house and infrastructure and sell the land on as an environmentally responsible property;

A CEC environmental consultancy cooperative doing flora & fauna surveys for the VCA, designing the house and infrastructure, fire management plans, soil & water plans etc.

The Trust using money made from the first property to finance a second property, and repeating the process.
