NEWS FROM THE CENTRE

The Library

- It looks like the leak in the roof is finally fixed and all books are back in their usual spots.

The Shops

- Both Gift Shop and Op Shop are doing well; thanks again to our members for their support and donations. The news that the Big Scrub shop in Lismore is about to close due to prohibitive costs once again confirms that our move to the Emporium was the right one.

Volunteers

– As usual, we are calling for another one or two volunteers who would like to spend a half day per week at our Centre, looking after the shops, answering the phone, and generally getting involved.

Memberships

Yet another plea for members to renew their subscriptions. There are only five months left before our next AGM, and many members have not yet brought their current dues up to date. As explained before, it is not just the money, the number of paid up members is often crucial in grant applications and other dealings with the powers that be.

Fundraising

– We have just been advised that we will receive a small GVEHO (Administration) grant, which will go towards our rent payments. A reminder that we have gift recipient status and donations to our Gift Fund are tax deductible. Our next fundraising event is the April Music Café on Wednesday, April 7. Karin

Say Not the Struggle Nought Availeth

SAY not the struggle nought availeth,
The labour and the wounds are vain,
The enemy faints not, nor faileth,
And as things have been, things remain;
If hopes were dupes, fears may be liars;
It may be, in yon smoke concealed,
Your comrades chase e’en now the fliers,
And, but for you, possess the field.
For while the tired waves vainly breaking
Seem here no painful inch to gain,
Far back, through creeks and inlets making,
Comes silent, flooding in, the main.
And not by eastern windows only,
When daylight comes, comes in the light,
In front the sun climbs slow, how slowly,
But westward, look, the land is bright.
