The Front Door

There's a special thing about the Environment Centre: it has lots of rooms.

There are big airy rooms, tiny poky rooms, rooms with a view, cluttered rooms, blue rooms. No one has counted them. Different things go on in each room, sometimes in a big intense way and sometimes just ticking over quietly.

  • There's the shop, where you can buy or chat at the counter.
  • There's the op shop, where the opportunity of a day might be waiting for you.
  • There's the library, full of books and journals and with a good big table for meetings.
  • There's the healing room where you can meditate or massage or light a candle.
  • There's the office where the computer is, and where people live in pigeonholes.
  • There's the kitchen.
  • There's the little cupboardy room at the top of the stairs.

But there are more!!

  • There's a reconciliation room where understanding slowly grows.
  • There's a political room where the Greens crawl out of the wood panelling at election times and go into a frenzy.
  • There's the treasury room.
  • There's the bulk food room smelling like olive oil and almonds.
  • There's a tree-planting room.
  • There's the room of stories, songs and toys.
  • There's a party room and a drumming room.
  • A fund-raising room - a history room, a LETS room.

Rooms come and go as they're needed...

  • a forest room
  • river room
  • the room where the animals scratch and twitter.

There are lots more rooms that haven't even been discovered yet. They happen when people need them. Sometimes they disappear for a while when they're not needed. Sometimes they come and go in a day.

The best thing about having all these rooms at the Environment Centre is that if nothing is happening in one, or if you can't find your way into the one you were looking for, there's sure to be another one open to save the day. None of the rooms are more important than another. They all give value to the Centre and help it to work in many different ways. This newsletter takes you through just a few of the rooms.
