AIN’T TECHNOLOGY WUNNERFUL!
When it’s a "quick buck" who needs a conscience?
8 of North America’s largest diesel engine makers have been caught out in a fraud which involved a computer chip being built into the engine software which reduced the engines pollution levels when tested according to the U.S. regulations. These 1.3 million diesel engines, in regular service use, created pollution equivalent to 65 million cars.
The companies- Detroit Diesel, Caterpillar Cummins, Mack Trucks, Renault Ind U.S., Navistar International, Volvo Truck and Dodge Ram – were fined $133 million. $176 million will be spent, over 3 years, rectifying the engines. Another $1.36 billion is earmarked for further investment in reducing diesel emissions. The companies also had to pay costs of $204 million.
The fraud was exposed when the EPA decided to do random spot road tests
Oh, we do feel sorry for them!! :-) The skunks.
