RETAIL ELECTRICITY CONTESTABILITY
Your choice is their choice is your choice
Energy Australia has decided not to buy power generated from wood-waste. This was prompted by environmentalists writing to retailers to indicate that they will only buy truly sustainable energy when contestability begins. Below is a sample letter you can, if you choose, send to the retailers listed in the table on the previous page. Just write, send an email or respond on–line at the retailer’s web address. (point and click on "contact us" ) Retailers are falling over themselves to look greenish. If they all refuse to buy wood-fired power, the FPA will have no reason to build Koolkhan.
Dear (name of retailer)
Soon, our family will be selecting a retailer to serve our domestic/commercial energy needs. Our priorities in making this decision will be to select a retailer who supports our commitment to sustainability and equity. Specifically, we need a retailer who is committed to the findings of the UN sponsored Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, which has established from scientific evidence the need for a 60% reduction in global greenhouse gas emissions.
We will select a retailer who:
1 Does not trade in environmentally damaging generation technologies such as coal, biomass and large scale hydro
2 Supports true renewable technologies such as wind, solar, solar thermal and solar hot water systems.
3 Actively promotes a demand management program.
Yours sincerely
